7 Predictions for the 2018 Billboard Music Awards
Share

For many artists and musicians, the Billboard Music Awards is the most important awards ceremony of the year. There are so many moments that we’re looking forward to watching. But we’ve also made a few predictions that seem pretty much like done deals.

Check out our top seven predictions for the 2018 Billboard Music Awards and let us know if you agree with us.

1. Cardi B Will Take Top New Artist

This category has some stiff competition. Alongside Cardi, the nominees include Camila Cabello, Khalid, Kodak Black, and 21 Savage. Even if we’re wrong here and Cardi B doesn’t win, she has seven other chances of winning on the evening of May 20th. Do you think that she deserves to win Top New Artist?

2. Tributes to Avicii Will Make Us Teary-Eyed

Avicii left this planet far too soon, but we will always remember him through his contributions to the electronic dance music scene. The Swedish DJ and producer’s 2017 album, AVĨCI (01), has been nominated for Top Dance/Electronic Album. We predict there will be some beautiful words spoken about Avicii, as well as a tribute performance…possibly by Zedd and Maren Morris? Only time will tell.

3. Chris Stapleton Will Win Top Country Album

This guy already won a Grammy Award, an iHeart Music Award, an ACM Award, and a CMA Award for his album, From A Room: Volume 1. What’s stopping him from winning a Billboard Music Award too?

4. The Migos Crew Will Beef Over Top Rap Album

We’re mostly kidding with this one – but we also wouldn’t be surprised if drama did transpire at some point in the evening. We can see it now – as Kendrick Lamar accepts the award for Top Rap Album for DAMN. the Migos throw a look from across the room. Maybe there’s a scuffle at an afterparty? Check TMZ next week for the full story.

5. Drake Will Win the Billboard Chart Achievement Award

After a record-breaking eight-year streak on the Billboard Hot 100 ending in 2017, Drake recently broke a different record with “God’s Plan.” It sat in the number one spot on the charts for 11 weeks straight! Drake is up against Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Sam Hunt, and Ed Sheeran, so we’ll have to wait to see who takes home this prestigious award.

6. “Despacito” Will Get Stuck in Your Head Again

Admit it – you STILL can’t help singing along with “Despacito” when it comes on. Well, it was nominated for multiple Billboard Music Awards, including Top Hot 100 Song, Top Selling Song, and Top Latin Song. We predict that it will take home a few wins at the show. We also think that Latin music’s growing mainstream popularity isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

7. Legendary Women Will Dominate the Stage

Okay, this isn’t quite a prediction, but 100% fact. This year’s performers include powerhouse women like Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Aguilera, as well as Camila Cabello, Dua Lipa, Kesha, Maren Morris, and Demi Lavato. Plus, Kelly Clarkson is the show’s host! Get the popcorn ready.

The big show goes down this Sunday, May 20th at 8:00pm Eastern/5:00pm Pacific on NBC. Click here to see a full list of 2018’s nominees on Billboard’s website.
