Behringer DeepMind 12 Features Augmented Reality
The highly anticipated Behringer DeepMind 12 will feature an augmented reality interface that works with Microsoft’s new HoloLens technology.
Not to be confused with virtual reality, the upcoming DeepMind 12 by Behringer features augmented reality that lets the user control their environment to create sounds in a new way. People were already excited about the new Behringer DeepMind and now the company is entering uncharted territory.
Watch the video demo from Synthfest UK 2016 at the top of the page.
The DeepMind 12 was previously a 12-voice analog synthesizer that cost less than $1000, which is supposed to be a really good deal compared to more costly synths. But this is a novel form of communicating through music that producers and engineers still have to explore. The testimonials from Synthfest UK 2016 have been very positive.
From the video demonstration it looks like the user manipulates buttons, keys and other effects to produce sounds. You can see the users’ fingers moving through the images like specters as they use them. It is more exercise than one gets with a traditional keyboard.
The Microsoft HoloLens is a self contained, holographic computer that you can wear as a headset in order to interact with high definition holograms. The HoloLens headset debuted in 2015. Microsoft has partnered with many high profile organizations to apply the new technology, including Behringer, Lowe’s, NASA and Skype. It has applications in fields as diverse as architecture to entertainment.
The Behringer DeepMind 12 is available for pre-order from authorized distributors at an MSRP of $999, even though the Behringer website has no mention of the new synth.
