Berklee College of Music Online Introduces First DJ Course: “Learn to DJ with Traktor”

Beginning this fall, Berklee College of Music Online will introduce their first ever DJ course called “Learn to DJ with Traktor.” The course author and instructor, Mike Henderson, also known by his DJ/producer name, ENDO, is the creator of the most widely-used Maschine mapping for Traktor Pro and founder of MIDI Monsters where he sells his custom Traktor mappings.

Spanning over a 12-week period, the course is geared toward both beginner DJs wanting to learn the basics of Traktor and more experienced DJs and producers who want to take their performances to the next level. A range of topics will be covered – everything from the fundamentals of DJing to all of the creative possibilities using Traktor.

“It’s a major milestone for Berklee Online as their first ever DJ course. We’ll go through the past, the present and the future of DJing using the Traktor Pro 2 software from Native Instruments,” said Henderson. “This isn’t just a class but a fully integrated learning experience.”

Henderson has been working on the course curriculum for a little more than a year. The first few classes will take a look at Traktor’s intuitive interface and work on mixing songs using Cue Points, Looping, Beatgridding, and the ever so controversial topic of Syncing. Later on things like four-deck DJing, MIDI Mapping, Harmonic Mixing, and Ableton Link will all be covered.

“Throughout the course, the goal is learn Traktor inside and out, build your portfolio of original mixes, and leave with a solid skill set and unique style,” Henderson added.

Berklee Online is the online extension school of Berklee College of Music, a nonprofit, coeducational institution with a mission to educate, train, and develop students to excel in music as a career. The fall 2017 “Learn to DJ with Traktor” course begins September 25. Check out the full curriculum here and sign up fast as space is limited. You can also find more info about tuition fees and financial aid opportunities on the Berklee Online website

When Henderson isn’t teaching, he’s usually on the road with Dubfire as tour manager or representing Native Instruments as a product specialist. He’s also trained top DJs on Traktor such as Carl Cox, DJ Skribble, Grandmaster Flash, Hot Since 82, Paris Hilton and Pete Tong, just to name a few! Henderson offers private, customized lessons dedicated to answering questions about Traktor or anything else DJ related.
