DJ Jinx Paul Guerrero Killed in Hit and Run
Spanish radio DJ Jinx Paul of La Mega 97.9 FM has died following a hit-and-run. Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect to come forward.
Brooklyn’s Jean Paul “Jinx” Guerrero, age 39, was walking home from a party at Caoba Brooklyn Bistro at around 4am when he was struck by a black Nissan Maxima driven by an unidentified woman in her 20’s or 30’s who did not stay at the scene. He was transported to Brookdale Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.
DJ Jinx Paul started out in the sales department at the Spanish Broadcasting System where he worked for ten years, and was on the air for two years reports New York Daily News. On the evening in question he was hosting a weekly party called “Mega Sundays” with DJ Carlito.

Unfortunately Guerrero’s brother recently died in Ecuador, and they are both survived by their father. He also leaves behind a 6 year old son.

Police have obtained security footage of the car involved in the accident. During a press conference NYPD Transportation Bureau Chief Thomas Chan said, “We do believe there was a female who might have exited out of the vehicle at the time. At this time we have not determined whether she was a passenger or a driver because that’s coming from our witnesses.”
According to Eric Garcia, CRO of the radio division and GM of SBS New York, while speaking to Billboard:
“It is a moment of great pain and sadness for Mega 97.9 FM and the radio fans due to the sudden and unexpected death of our companion and friend, DJ Jinx Paul, who will always be remembered. On behalf of the SBS family New York, we send our heartfelt condolences to his wife to his child, brothers and relatives.”
In a statement made in Spanish on Instagram the the station said, “DJ Jinx Paul won the affection of all who worked with him on Mega 97.9 and 93.1. It was love from the first day he set foot in our home on 56th Street in Manhattan.”
Eric Morel, a friend of Guerrero has set up a Go Fund Me to raise funeral expenses. Meanwhile police are asking anyone with relevant information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS. And Spanish Broadcasting Systems general manager Eric Garcia is offering a $2,000 reward for information about Guerrero’s death.
Update: December 26, 2016 – Radio Ink confirms that Kevin Ozoria, age 27, has turned himself in to the police. After taking the black sedan into a body shop the mechanic called the police on him the same day as the accident, and insisted he couldn’t park it there.
