Exclusive: 2018 DMC Dallas Regional DJ Battle Recap

As the longest running DJ Battles in the world (founded in 1985!), the DMC DJ Battles are also the most prestigious. BPM Supreme contributor, DJ Notorious, had the chance to attend the 2018 DMC Dallas Regional DJ Battle presented by Rane + Radio DJs. Keep reading to see photos and a recap of the exciting event by DJ Notorious.

“As the DMC DJ Battle season starts to heat up, I had the chance to see some remarkable sets by the competitors at the 2018 Dallas Regional DJ Battle. It all went down on Wednesday, March 28th at Martini Ranch at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, TX.

A little background: DMC DJ Battles consist of a classic solo showcase style DJ battle. DJs each perform a two-minute routine for the elimination round. Then the judges choose six DJs to advance to the final round. The top six then each perform a six-minute routine competing for first place. The champion of this battle advances to the 2018 DMC US Finals.

A notable performance was by the youngest DJ to compete, Dallas native, DJ K-Sprinkles. Her set was both enthusiastic and technical. It was great to see this 12-year-old in a room full of veteran DJs just light a fire with her (Technics 1200) turntable party-rocking set.

Later in the evening, we got to witness showcases by DJ Eyecon and DMC World Supremacy Champ, DJ Precision (X-ecutioners). DJ Donnie Dee hosted the event and the judges consisted of DJ Precision, DJ Spiderman and DJ Feedback (who are no strangers to the battle scene).

With 10+ competitors battling head to head from all around The Lone Star State, the art form was definitely alive and well with creativity. 2nd place went to DJ Ivan G and 3rd place to DJ Frank Dux.

Going home with the 1st place spot was DJ Tums. A big congratulations – he will advance to the 2018 DMC US Finals! DJ Tums’ two sets were jam-packed with dope cuts and high energy. Dallas can definitely be proud of our new DMC regional champion!”
