Happy Birthday to the late Grandmaster Roc Raida

When DJs look back on influential individuals from the New York hip-hop scene, there is one name that stands above the rest, Grandmaster Roc Raida.

Roc Raida made his mark as a battle DJ, innovating a style filled with hard disses, intricate juggles, and amazing body tricks. This style is what led Roc Raida to win the DMC World DJ Championship in 1995. Just four years later, Roc Raida was inducted into the DMC Hall of Fame.

Outside of his accomplishments as a battle DJ, Roc Raida is known more for his contributions to the DJ community and for the music he put out with his crew The X-Ecutioners. Throughout his years on the DJ circuit, Roc Raida traveled the globe and worked with artists like Linkin Park, Cypress Hill, Kool G Rap and Mike Patton to name a few. He shaped a whole new generation of DJs, one notable DJ who is grateful for his advice has been international DJ star, A-Trak.

Roc Raida passed away on September 19th, 2009 at 37 years old from an unlikely martial-arts accident that took place a few weeks earlier. Grandmaster Roc Raida (born Anthony Williams), would have been 45 years old today.
