‘Pioneer DJ c/o Virgil Abloh’ Strips Down the NXS2 DJ Setup
Pioneer DJ has teamed up with fashion designer and DJ, Virgil Abloh, to create a custom, transparent version of the company’s flagship NXS2 DJ setup. Sorry DJs, but unfortunately these models aren’t for sale as of now. The “TRANSPARENT” setup was created to be displayed during Abloh’s highly anticipated “FIGURES OF SPEECH” exhibition at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, coming this June.
“… I aimed to design a see-thru and non-labeled rendition of the classic models to inspire a different sound while DJing,” says Abloh in a statement. “And perhaps a new way for music technology and human interaction to equal a different result.”
As part of Pioneer DJ’s effort to “re-evaluate the current design treatment of our flagship DJ equipment and strip down to its skeleton,” the transparent CDJ-2000NXS2 and DJM-900NXS2 have a sleek, futuristic look. They emit a colorful display of lights when used in the dark. It’s a stunning design that gives users a look at what goes on inside the equipment.

“Virgil Abloh’s creations can’t be defined by genre. He boldly connects various art forms, demonstrating unlimited creative possibilities to audiences around the world, and this embodies DJing,” said Pioneer DJ President and CEO Akio Moriwaki. “… this year, the CDJ series will celebrate its 25th anniversary. We hope that our collaboration with Virgil Abloh will trigger a new story for our customers and our company, and lead to the further development of DJ culture.”
