Technics Confirms the New SL-1200MK7 DJ-Friendly Turntable

Updated January 9, 2019

The word is officially out! As Technics recently teased on social media, a new DJ-friendly turntable has been revealed. The SL-1200MK7 Direct Drive Turntable inherits the traditional Technics 1200 design that DJs know and love but adds new technologies for high quality sound. Keep reading for more details.

The Technics SL-1200 was originally released back in 1972 and quickly became the gold standard of DJ decks. What DJs love most about this turntable is how easy it is to use, and how reliable and durable it is. While Technics has no intention of drastically changing the popular 1200 model, they have made improvements to make the SL-1200MK7 more compatible with today’s standards.

A few of our favorite features of the new SL-1200MK7 include:

Coreless Direct Drive Motor

A new coreless direct drive motor was developed to help eliminate cogging and achieve stable rotation.

Reverse Play Function

Giving DJs more ways to play, the platter now rotates in the reverse direction when the speed selector button and Start/Stop button are pressed simultaneously.

Stylus Illuminator

The stylus illuminator features a new push-type structure with a high-brightness and long-life white LED.

Detachable PHONO Terminal

Detachable power/phono cable terminals help prevent cable discontinuity and provide easier cable maintenance.

Improved Vibration Damping Performance

A two-layer structure with deadening rubber on the entire back surface helps to eliminate unwanted resonance and harmful vibration.

Pitch Control Function

The pitch control function allows fine adjustment of the rotation speed within ±8%/±16%, enabling accurate and stable pitch adjustment.

High Sensitive Tonearm

The static-balance universal S-shape tonearm has a high-precision bearing for excellent tracking performance with minimum stylus jumping, even in harsh playing conditions such as scratching.

All Black Design

Matte black body, black buttons and a black tonearm give the SL-1200MK7 a refined appearance.

Inside the box, you’ll find plenty of accessories as well: slipmat, slipsheet, dust cover, EP record adaptor, balance weight, head shell, screw set for cartridge, PHONO cable, PHONO earth lead, and an AC power supply cord.

The new Technics SL-1200MK7 will be available this May for a retail price of $1200 USD. For full release details, visit
