Workshop Recap: Inside the Agency with Sleeping Giant Music
Last week, BPM Supreme hosted the first “Inside the Agency” workshop with our good friends from Sleeping Giant Music and Booking Agency. It was a packed house with local DJs, artists, and entrepreneurs all gathered to listen to advice from industry experts.
Speakers included Sleeping Giant founder, Freddie Harb, co-owner, Troy Gilmore, and roster DJs, Chris Cutz and Lavelle. The workshop covered interesting topics like the benefits of signing with an agency, how a DJ can stand out from their competition, and the importance of things like social media and marketing.
“Agencies can put DJs and artists in front of the right people. At the end of the day, artists have to make themselves, but having that exposure makes a big difference,” said Gilmore.
Chris Cutz added that joining the Sleeping Giant roster has opened doors to big venues in cities like Las Vegas, and has also helped him to consistently get paid on time. Lavelle agreed and said that having a dedicated agent allows him to focus on his music rather than worrying about the day-to-day responsibilities, such as invoicing.
“When you’re just starting your DJ career, you gotta be doing it all. But when it starts getting a little overwhelming and you can’t find time to get in the studio, that’s where an agency or a manager can help, “ Lavelle said.
