Five Best USB Drives for DJs

Updated February 2018

If you’re a DJ in the market for a new USB drive, you’re in luck. We’ve compiled a list of some of the best USB drives available in 2018. A USB drive allows you to effortlessly and safely carry your digital library anywhere you go.

Important factors to keep in mind when choosing a USB drive:

  • Size – a 32GB to 64GB drive holds about 3,200 to 6,400 songs
  • Speed – a 3.0 drive is over ten times faster than a 2.0 drive
  • Style – fits in tight spaces and won’t get knocked out of the USB port easily
  • Price – faster and higher storage capabilities = higher price tag

Here are our top picks for USB flash drives for 2018:

  1. I have the Sandisk one, and its been legitimately amazing. My entire collection synced from Rekordbox in barely anytime at all, I was stunned.

      1. I play often, I weed out tunes that I don’t need, or don’t fit what I play. I dont even half fill it up and could play a 10+ hr set no problem. Most dj sets are 1-2 hr sets I still have tons of room to wiggle. I also play a lot of my own material and music from my label. I don have like every hit from the 80s, nor would I ever care to.

  2. The Flash Survivor Stealth® USB 3.0 doesnt work that well, I know several DJs who have problems with this stick…. Emergency Loop or Now Loading also I read bad comments about this stick on other pages. you better take one of the other sticks.

    1. Only Samsung or a known company like Sandisk or corsair. The ones listed are not bad, but you need a great brand to make sure you are getting top USB3 speeds. I’ve seen non-brands claim USB3 speeds but only get 12mb transfer per second. Also, when push comes to shove you can copy and move large amounts of data FAST. I would recommend getting 2 identical drives and some software app that can mirror the data just in case your recordbox or serato database gets corrupted, or you lose/damage the usb. I can’t believe I still have DJ friends that lose their whole collection because they have standard USB or 2.5 external drives for their music. I would say something like would be good since it has a dust cover and can fit on a keychain. The Kingston and the Samsung above are great but will be cumbersome if you keep the data on your keychain. Regardless the drive you get just make sure you have a mirror of the data periodically. Too many times I’ve seen friends lose their USB collection because they leave it in the mixer, laptop, decks of a club. Ultimate thing to do is to get a NAS drive to backup your WHOLE collection (videos and all) and only rely on USB’s for sets.

  3. I won’t recommend any Lexar USB stick.
Got two brand new, had made all new playlists in Rekordbox, and the moment I put them on the CDJ, they stop working until today.
All my computers (PC and MAC) can’t read or access them.
Glad I have my Toshiba TransMemory U202 with me, because when you are ready to perform in front of more than 2000 people, you better have a plan B and C.

Those TOSHIBA TransMemory U202 USB-Stick are also awesome for a 2.0 usb. they are fast and reliable.
