Technics Hints at New SL-1200 Turntable for 2019
Share

Is there a new DJ turntable coming from the Technics camp? At the moment, all signs are pointing to yes. But what kind of turntable should we expect, and will it live up to the original Technics SL-1200 series that is so beloved by DJs?

With the welcoming of 2019 came a rush of mysterious social media posts containing ambiguous photos. The hashtag #technics7th began circulating, pointing to a potential announcement at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 7, 2019.

Since releasing the first SL-1200 back in 1972, Technics have created various turntable models at a wide range of prices. However, to the dismay of DJs all over the world, many of the more recent models were marketed towards true-blue audiophiles and not so much to the turntablist community. Will we finally see a new Technics turntable that is made for the vinyl DJ and also carries a reasonable price tag?

Our friends at DJ Tech Tools report that the January 7th event could very well be announcing a new Technics SL-1200 MK7 model. While the features and price are still a mystery, we can assume if the new turntable is in fact an MK7 it will be an updated version of the MK6 released in 2007.

We’ll be updating our blog with more news as it becomes available. Are you using an older Technics turntable currently? Let us know what kind of features you’d like to see in a revamped Technics turntable.
